Gardening with Mary: Jurassic Park edition

The reason this gardening segment is titled Jurassic Park is due to my GIANT zucchini leaves.  My zucchini plants have taken over the garden bed they are in and I am constantly trimming back those massive leaves.

Inside is a crazy tangle of vines with little baby zucchinis on them.  Mmmm I can't wait to make some chocolate zucchini cake.

On a non-Jurassic note, we harvested our first jalapeno the other day.  So cute, nestled in a bed of cilantro!

Mowing along

It is never too early to teach your child some household chores.

I think I will teach him how to do the dishes next.

Gardening with Mary

I am trying to think of a good theme song to go along with "Gardening with Mary".  If anyone has any suggestions please let me know, or just hum it to yourself as you read my gardening posts.

My sugar snap peas have arrived!

Anyone like a little spice?  Have one of my jalapenos!

I can't wait to slice into a juicy red tomato.

These Roma's will be canned to make spaghetti sauce, mmmm.

The boys doing some "manly" things.

Peek-a-boo here comes the broccoli!

More strawberries anyone?!?!

Ahhhh Refreshing!

Nothing beats an ice cold coke on a hot summers day.

(I didn't even pose him like that)

What does 30lbs of strawberries get you?

Strawberry shortcakes and milkshakes

17 jars of freezer jam.

Homemade strawberry fruit leather and a very happy, messy baby!

The rest were frozen so we can enjoy them throughout the year until it is time to pick again!

Strawberry Baby

On Tuesday I donned my SPF 70 and struck out on a mission to pick fresh Oregon strawberries.  Nothing tastes sweeter than a freshly picked strawberry.  Trust us we know, we sampled our fair share plus probably others.

Everyone had to work, didn't matter your age.

This was Jorge and Miguel's first berry picking experience and they did really good.  Of course their favorite part was eating all the berries.

In the end we picked 30 lbs of berries for me and mom picked 20lbs.  Not bad for 2 hours.

Fabulous Fourth!

I hope that everyone had a fabulous 4th of July.  We BBQd at my parents house and then watched fireworks off their deck.  Damian didn't make it until firework time, too sleepy.  I was surprised that all the BOOMS didn't wake him up.

What a cute little boy!

It's not the 4th without watermelon!

He was quite entranced by my sparkler.

One last picture before heading to bed.

Mmmmm Mmmmm Good

Nothing beats nice cold watermelon on a hot day!
He must remember the taste of watermelon from all that I ate while pregnant with him.
Definitely a bath was needed after the watermelon, had to wash it out of the cute double chin!
